I see you've posted this on a few other blogs so I shouldn't engage but Good Glaven, you'd be off thieving and killing if you didn't think you were being watched all the time? Am I glad you believe!

There also seems to be a pretty bad misunderstanding of the nature of the Holocaust: The history of European antisemitism is entwined with Christianity - Many not only thought that God was watching <em> but that God approved</em>. Hitler frequently used religious language when talking about his hatred of the Jews (and in a related piece of religion inspired hatred he outlawed atheist and freethinking groups). This shameless rewriting of history to blame atheists for something that undeniably sprang forth from very old and well documented Christian ideas is just disgusting. "Irrefutable response" my arse.

I would highly suggest for you, and any one else interested to read the book "<a href="http://jaajoe.com/Books/Book-Review-The-Devil-s-Delusion-Atheism-And-Its-Scientific-Pretensions.html" rel="nofollow">"The Devil's Delusion: Atheism and its Scientific Pretensions."</a> by self-professed secular Jew and mathematics/philosophies teacher David Berlinski.
This tells the story of a Jew who was forced to dig his own grave prior to being shot by a German soldier. Prior to being shot, the old Jewish man advised the German that “God is watching what you are doing.” The Jewish gentleman pointed what i think is the real problem with atheism. "<a href="http://jaajoe.com/Books/Book-Review-The-Devil-s-Delusion-Atheism-And-Its-Scientific-Pretensions.html" rel="nofollow">If you have the time please check the book out</a>

Personally my hope is that Obama wins, but proves controversial enough to split the Dems in the process, yet survives by appealing to independents, thereby creating a legitimate third force in US politics from the presidency.

I can but dream. It'd've been more likely had Clinton won the nomination and alienated the non-left-wingers.

Quote : "The thing that struck me about some of Theo’s writing, and your own here, is that in many places the words ‘Christian’ (or ‘believer’), and ‘atheist’ could be used interchangeably and it would make no difference at all."

Apparently then you've understood very little of either of the posts.

Quote : "As far as I can see the whole God thing, as expressed through Jesus, is about the reality and nature of true love; love expressed humbly in the face of hatred, fear, intolerance, arrogance, ignorance, and death."

Yeah, and this love has been expressed so wonderfully; it has been expressed through murder torture; it has been expressed through beautiful misogyny; it has been expressed through joyful homophobia; it has been expressed through sweet racism. Yes, more then two-millenia of pain and suffering, because of the wicked words of a deranged preacher. The one who taught of eternal damnation; who taught people to loathe their own sexuality.

Quote : "Can we learn what true love is and act accordingly, towards our enemies at least as much as towards our friends? Interesting things seem to happen when people start doing wonderful and uncomfortable things like that. They get killed for it too, a just reward for their subversive refusal to kick the shit out of the enemy."

Oh yes, lets! Let's let all bathe in the sickly sweet love of Jesus . Let's tell the sinners that we hate the sin but not the sinner. Let's tell them that they just might be barbecued for eternity, because Jesus loves you. Like the moderate believers do today, let's be so innocent and delicate, let's be gentle and sweet, and let's inject the poison subtly and carefully, the kind smile never wavering from our face.
