And of course the other reason why its bad is because its ultimatly futile, at the end of the day its always going to be possible just to record back in the sound from the stereo mix and it in a useable form. It’s a little tedious, but it works and makes DRM effectively useless.

Forgive me but when I pay for something, I like to think I’m buying it. After all, all the hype of legal music downloads is buying music without all that pesky cd-making overhead. Turns out that when I brought Beatnik Turtle’s Cheapass inspired album off napster, I’m not so much buying the music as I am paying to be loaned the music by napster. It can only be played back on this computer and when my napster trial expires, that music has gone folks!

Now, seeing as I have a few computers that I might want to be listening to music on, I’m going to be running into this problem right away. I want to be able to do all the things with my music that I could do with a CD, and I just can’t do that with DRM music. I’m going to crack this music so its useable and then find some other way of getting music that doesn’t impose such stupid restrictions. Being treated like I’m going to do something illegal from the moment of download doesn’t make me warm to the music industry.
